It may be a bride's prerogative to be late for her wedding - but world champion Lizzie Armitstead's excuse for turning up 10 minutes late yesterday for her marriage to Team Sky's Philip Deignan had an particularly ironic twist, since her tardiness was reportedly caused by a slow-pedalling cyclist.
Armitstead, 27, travelled to the ceremony at the The Bridge United Reformed Church in her home town of Otley, West Yorkshire, in a vintage West Riding bus, reports OK! magazine.
If the driver failed to get the bride to the church on time, that's perhaps because they didn't try and squeeze pass the rider, unlike their counterpart at Deignan's team earlier this month when a cyclist in Wales shared a video of the Team Sky bus making a close pass on him.

Armitstead - who in August told OK! magazine"There'll be a strictly no cycling theme at the wedding" and that "anybody who brings anything cycling related will be turned away" - was beaming as she and her new husband emerged from the church after the service to be greeted by guests and well-wishers before heading off to the reception in a vintage Rolls-Royce.
The couple first met when riding for Cervelo TestTeam in 2010, but romance only blossomed four years later after Deignan, 31, moved to Monaco where Armitstead was already living.
