Would you like to work at road.cc? Cos we’re hiring and it’s not just any old job either. We’re looking for the next Liam Cahill, road.cc’s star of Youtube, Facebook, Instagram and occasionally Twitter. Liam our much valued intern is taking his ‘can do’ attitude and lustrous head of hair off to Canada at the end of the month* and we need to find his replacement.
So, if you think you might be the answer to the Liam shaped hole that’s about to open up at road.cc Towers - watch the video at the top of the page and then answer these questions.
• Do you love all kinds of bikes and, more importantly, quite like all kinds of cyclists too?
• Do you know your bikes, and your bike bits?
• Can you open a box/clean a bike/mend a puncture while talking meaningfully about what you’re doing at the same time? (With a camera pointing at you.)
• Can you be helpful and nice to people on social media? (Yes, yes, we know that’s not how it usually works)
• Can you be helpful and nice to people who comment and ask questions on road.cc? (Where everyone is nice all the time. Honest.)
• Do you have a positive ‘can do’ attitude like Liam* - yes, he really does have one and you really will need one too.
• Do you like riding off road? This one isn't totally essential but it'll be REALLY useful if you do.
If your answers to the questions are ‘yes’; and having seen the vid you think ‘I could do that’ and, just as importantly, 'I want to do that' then we’d like to talk to you.
About the role
This is a a really exciting job that involves working across road.cc and its social media channels to engage with users and answer their questions it also involves a fair amount of video work in partnership with our videographer, Matt Howes.
Our ideal candidate should have a confident, engaging, outgoing personality, a passion for bikes and an inclusive approach to cycling (hint: quoting The Rules at any point during the application process will be considered terminal to your chances of getting the job). You will definitely need a good sense of humour.
A good level of technical bike knowledge would be extremely useful particularly when it comes to the video side of the role, but if you have another area of cycling expertise you think might be relevant such as training, nutrition, or riding skills we would also give your application serious consideration.
Salary is circa £12k per year, and the role is initially on a short term basis, but all of our interns have gone on to become permanent members of staff.
Other things to bear in mind…
This is a paid internship the object of which is to become a full time member of the road.cc editorial team so that somebody else can have a go at being the intern.
The role is based in Bath.
You really do have to be nice to people on social media - within limits, we’re not monsters.
To apply for the job please send your CV and a covering email - subject line: I want to make tea at road.cc to tony [at] road.cc - explaining why you think you’d be right for the role and enclosing your CV along with links to any articles, blogs, videos or any other work that you think would be relevant.
(*Not because we've just twigged that none of us can remember him making a round of tea in the last six months - a really quite staggering achievement.)
